oya midterm..- -..same here with below student.. I was trying to get restriction map by taking into account "sal" (similar to sau) has compatible ends with "Bam", so "sal" enzyme will cut every sal sites AND bam sites, but "bam" enzyme would only cut "bam" sites, not "sal' sites. I tried like 10 times but didn't work, and that made me panic so bad I screwed up rest of the questions..well, rather didn't have any time for rest of question,..!arhh..it'll be soo great if there's make-up exam..
Circling the colours in the las question was not very fair because it wasn't asked directly as a question and instead is embedded within the multiple choice answers!
I completely agree with what both people have said so far. The first question was fair, simply because we have seen something similar and thus practiced during tutorials. However, I found this midterm harder than the past ones that I was using as practice. The last question should be eliminated...30 marks for circling answers...kind of ridiculous...I felt I didn't have enough time either. All in all, if there is a make-up exam, that would be great!
I totally agree with what was said about the midterm. I think questions were long and unclear especially question on restriction mapping. In question 2, it was said that there is no "sal" site in DNA fragment (insert) but it would not be possible to have all the fragments after the construct digest. I was confused by wording and was not sure if they mean no "sal" in vector or no "sal" in insert. As a result, I spend lots of time on question that supposed to be easy.
200% agree with the above comment..cuz thats what I did..I spent seriously so much time on that #2 restriction map cuz the wording was so unclear, which now I realize was an easy question, and that made me lose time on other questions..and from this, I realized all the efforts can go in vain, just like that..
I think the midterm was unfair in terms of questions and the format. I don't like when questions are related to each other. if you did not answer first question right the second and third are also wrong, so you lose 30 or 40 marks at once. I hope the exam is scaled.
